- REGULAR MEETING
The Poland Township Board of Trustees held their regular meeting April 11, 2018 at the Poland Township Government Center located at 3339 Dobbins Road Poland, Ohio.
Ms. Timko leads the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mr. Scharville calls roll call. Ungaro, Wollet and Kempers were present.
Ungaro motions to authorize payment for all outstanding checks for the township. Seconded by Wollet. Voting yes – Ungaro, Wollet, and Kempers.
Paul Canter was present to give financial report.
January- Revenue of $27,305; Expenditures of $234,602
February- Revenue of 372,011; Expenditures of $304,575
March- Revenue of $523,808; Expenditures of $210,592
Cindy Best was present to discuss Celebrate Poland for a few moments. She provided a list of all that Celebrate Poland does and requested a donation. Ungaro motioned to approve a donation of $1,500 to Celebrate Poland. Seconded by Kempers. Voting yes – Ungaro and Kempers. Abstain – Wollet.
Ungaro motions to appoint Paul Sherman as an alternate to the Board of Zoning Appeals. Seconded by Wollet. Voting yes – Ungaro, Wollet and Kempers.
Ungaro motions to approve the process to advertise for seasonal help. Seconded by Wollet Voting yes – Ungaro, Wollet and Kempers.
Gary Diorio was present to discuss the Mahoning County Block Developmental Program Grant, which is a CDBG Grant. He also discussed the areas in Poland Township that qualify for resurfacing. Areas qualified are Knollwood from Youngstown Poland Road to 10th Street and Shetland from 10th Street to Fifth Street. Ungaro motioned to approve move forward with the process to begin application for the CDBG Grant through Mahoning County. Seconded by Wollet. Voting –Yes- Ungaro, Wollet and Kempers.
Poland Township recognizes Patrolman Brian McCrea and Patrolman Josh Kozic with a lifesaving certificate.
Terry Fercana and Michelle Johnson from Environmental Design Group are present to discuss the possibility of future project and growth. They presented a PowerPoint slide show regarding the steps to preparing a comprehensive plan.
PARK COMMITTEE:
Ken Filicky is present to give monthly report.
RECYCLING DEPARTMENT:
Mr. Scharville is present to give monthly report.
ZONING DEPARTMENT:
Bob Monus is present to give monthly report. For the month of April there was a total valuation of $589,070 and total fees collected of $5,049.
ROAD DEPARTMENT:
Tom Monus is present to give monthly report.
Ungaro motioned to approve J.S Bova for Meadowbrook drainage project not to exceed $5,200.00. Second by Wollet. Voting yes – Ungaro, Wollet and Kempers.
Ungaro motioned to approve purchase of trailer from Bennett Trailer not to exceed $2,400. Seconded by Wollet. Voting yes - Ungaro, Wollet, and Kempers.
POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Chief Goodin is present to give monthly stats.
Discussed the continuation of the D.A.R.E program with the schools.
Ungaro motioned to approve the purchase of ammunition for firearms qualifications from Witmer’s in the amount not to exceed $2,500. Seconded by Wollet. Voting yes – Ungaro, Wollet and Kempers.
Ungaro motioned to hire Christopher Walla as a part- time patrol officer at $10/hr. pending medical examination. Seconded by Wollet. Voting yes- Ungaro, Wollet, and Kempers.
PUBLIC COMMENT:
Sue Dutko of 6662 Katahdin Dr. was present to discuss their concerns about the paving projects and being told in the past that it would be done every seven years.
Ronald Dutko of 6662 Katahdin Dr. was present to discuss extending the paving projects to include his street.
Ungaro motions at 7:36 p.m. to adjourn from the regular township meeting. Seconded by Wollet. Voting yes – Ungaro, Wollet, and Kempers.
